In Memory

Dave Heaston

David Lon Heaston

JULY 26, 1945 ~ APRIL 20, 2019 (AGE 73)

David (Dave) Lon Heaston, age 73, died on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his home due to complications from a heart attack and a stroke surrounded by his wife and three daughters.  Dave was born on July 26, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri to Leonard (Pat) and Mildred (Millie) Heaston.  He and his four younger brothers Dennis, Greg, Gary and Pat grew up in Kaysville, Utah.
Excelling in academics, Dave graduated from Davis High School as class valedictorian in 1963.  He served a two and a half year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Austria.  Dave went on to graduate from Brigham Young University with a masters degree in Zoology/Endocrinology during which time he met and married his sweet wife Lenda Isaacson.  Dave's compassionate nature and gift of empathy inspired his lifelong desire to become a doctor and care for people.  In his words, "I just couldn't picture myself doing anything else."  He was accepted to a progressive medical school at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada.  After completing medical school he returned to Utah to attend the University of Utah to finish a residency in family medicine.  For years, his service as a family doctor blessed the lives of countless individuals.
Dave and Lenda had four children, Jason, Jill (Dave), Jaime (Steve), and Alissa (Matt) and eleven beautiful grandchildren.  Dave found joy in photographing both his family and the beauty of nature.  His love for the gospel of Jesus Christ inspired his desire to serve those around him.  He found peace and happiness as he continually studied the teachings of the church. In a recent testimony to his granddaughter Dave wrote," When it does not seem that our fervent prayers have been answered...we need to exercise faith and trust in the Lord and have patience to know that He knows and loves us and that all things will ultimately turn out for our good."
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 26, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Wasatch Stake Center, 8170 S. Short Hills Drive, Sandy 84093..  A visitation will be held Thursday, April 24, 2019 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6-8 p.m. and the day of the service at the church from 10-10:45 am.

I remember Dave during our high school days as one who demonstrated the qualities of character that earned him a genuine admiration by all.  He had a great respect for the value of education and set an impressive example as a student. Fifty years after our high school graduation I had the great privilege of working with Dave at the class reunion and later with keeping the website up to date.  Dave worked tirelessly in searching out every single source to locate every single classmate.  He really cared about the whereabouts and wellbeing of everyone in the class.  He, more than anyone, made sure that the “In Memory” section was up to date.  As we now add a great person and wonderful friend to that same list, I’m sure I speak for all in thanking him for all he did and for the lasting positive memory that will stay with all who knew him.

Nancy and I remember Dave Heaston as a great guy, friend to all with a sharp wit and keen intellect.  He was chosen as our class valedictorian because he represented all that we could be.  We are deeply saddened by his passing.  We've lost a good friend and someone the Earth can ill afford to lose. So long, Dave.

Dave was ALWAYS. SO. KIND.  I wasn't in the upper league like Dave was, yet his genuine kindness made us friends which assuaged my insecurities and boosted my self image.  He's much more than our Class valedictorian, he's a World Human Value valedictorian.  I concur with Sam Rushforth: Dave is someone the Earth can ill afford to lose.   I hope I make it to heaven to thank him face to face!
